Luminous Egress has been engaged by DPR Construction to install a luminous egress system for the safety of air traffic controllers and other airport employees who will work in the new control tower at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in Mesa, Arizona.
We will be installing photoluminescent exit signage and directional markings in the main stairwell that ascends the tower’s central concrete column and then throughout the tower’s two occupied levels. The main occupied levels include the Junction level for the maintenance services teams and the Cab and Console levels for the air traffic control and tower operations teams. These glow-in-the-dark products are key components of the tower’s fire safety emergency exit system and help the structure meet IFC compliance requirements.
Replacing the original control tower built in 1970, the new 190-foot tower features a larger cab that doubles the amount of interior space and offers air traffic controllers unobstructed views across the airfield. The new tower is a linchpin in the airport’s master plan and the largest single project in the history of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority. Construction began in November 2020 and is expected to take two years to complete.
